Combat 4.4 - The formulas

Disclaimer: much of this info is speculation, and is subject to change. If you have seen information that disputes this, I’m very willing to listen and adapt. However, please try to provide examples or document your findings. Only by the combined experiences of the community can we improve our knowledge.

I’ve been really trying to pay attention to the formula over the past few weeks, which is why it’s taken me a while to get this out.

We don’t know a lot about the specifics for Reign of Vampires, however we do know something about vampire wars, which is another game that is very similar to Reign of Vampires in many ways. We can use that as a starting off point and adjust that based on reliable information and experience.

Here is what we know:

The combat formula for VW is as follows:

1) Combat Rating = SQRT((att+def)*Clan+Equipment Rating)
2) The Devs said in the dev chat that both attack and defense are both used in all battles, however Attack is factored more heavily if you are attacking, and defense is used more if you are defending. They did not give any specifics, but this runs counter to the VW formula, so we will adjust it.
3) Based on VW, the game will use the Attack rating of your best gear to attack, and the defense rating of your best gear to defend.
4) The definition of “Best Gear” to the game determined by the SUM of a piece of equipment’s attack and defense. We see this in the fact that the game will select Hypnotic Mind Manipulation when attacking over the Death Gun, although the Death Gun has a higher attack score.
5) Combat results are determined by comparing that Attack Rating vs Defense rating and adding a random dice roll. (this is seen in situations when the same target is attacked and yielding a differing number of wins and defeats)
6) The VW formula does not use a random dice roll to determine combat. Therefore we will have to engage in some speculation as to how the game factors this in, until we get more solid information.
7) Experience is determined by a random dice roll and not affected by respective level, clan, equipment or hit list.
8) Damage is determined by a random dice roll and is not affected by respective level, clan, equipment or hit list.

Formula.

Using the information supplied by the devs, we can make an educated guess on the formula. It will be amended as follows, and subject to further revision as we learn more.

Attacking Formula:
Attack Rating = SQRT((att+(def*.5))*Clan + Equipment attack Rating)

Defending Formula
Defense Rating =SQRT(((att*.5)+Def)*Clan + Equipment attack Rating)

Combat Formula (this is speculation)
Results = Defenders DR - Attacker’s AR + random roll.
If the results are positive, the defender will win, if the results are negative, the Attacker will win.

Example:
Marcus, A combat Vamp has the following stats.
Level 100 Skill Points = 627 (495 (5 per level after level 1) + 132 (1 skill point per 3 levels of mastery *44 tasks)
Attack = 295 (294 skill points)
Defense = 240 (239 skill points)
Health = 100
Energy = 60 (50 skill points ) – Minimum to do all tasks
Stamina = 25 = (44 skill points)

Marcus has his clan maxed out and 501 HMM, 501 BA, and 501 VA. For sake of simplicity we will assume no discoveries. So, we will calculating Marcus’ attack and defense scores as follows

Attack: (12525 (501 HMM) + 1503 (501 BA) + 10521 (501VA) = 24549
Defense: (12024 (501 HMM) + 6513 (501 BA) + 510 (501VA) = 19047

Now we have enough info to fill in the formula:
Attack Rating = SQRT((att+(def*.5))*Clan + Equipment attack Rating)
Attack Rating = SQRT (295+120)*500+24549
Attack Rating = SQRT (207500 + 24549 = 232049)
Attack Rating = 481.71

Defense Rating =SQRT(((att*.5)+Def)*Clan + Equipment attack Rating)
Defense Rating =SQRT(147.5 + 240)*500+19047)
Defense Rating =SQRT (193750 + 19047= 212797)
Defense Rating = 461.30

Now for an opponent, lets go to the other end of the spectrum. Angeline is an evamp who happened to be unfortunate enough to show up of Marcus’ fight list. A bit into her carreer, she decided to put a few points into att and def to keep from being a complete target. She also has her clan maxed out and the maximum of the 3 main abilities.

Angeline is also level 100, with the same amount of skill points, divided like so.

Attack =100 (99 SP )
Defense = 100 (99 SP)
Health = 100
Energy = 439 (429 SP)
Stamina = 3

Her attack and defense rating are as follows.

Attack Rating = SQRT((att+(def*.5))*Clan + Equipment attack Rating)
Attack Rating = SQRT (100+50)*500+24549 )
Attack Rating = SQRT (75000 + 24549 = 99549)
Attack Rating = 315.51

Defense Rating =SQRT(((att*.5)+Def)*Clan + Equipment attack Rating)
Defense Rating =SQRT(50 + 100)*500+19047)
Defense Rating =SQRT (75000 + 19047= 94047
Defense Rating = 306.67

So, if Marcus attacks Angeline, we will factor combat as follows.

Att AR – Def DR + RR
306.67 - 481.70 – neg 175.03 + RR = results.

As we can see the random roll would have to be more than the difference (175.03) for Angelina to win. I believe the random roll is between 1-100. If this is the case, it is impossible for Angelina to win this battle.

Thank you for this. Now some of the battle results I've seen make sense. Being a fairly new player, I thought I just wasn't getting it. But the random dice roll clears things up for me.

I wish I had found your site earlier before I foolishly put too many points into energy; not nearly as much as an e-vamp but more than 60. I may scrap this vamp and start over. bleh.

Two questions. Firstly, I've noticed that some of my victorious combatants have bought only high end gear (eg. no attack powers lower than demon spears). Is this a good strategy or is it better to have a more even spread of gear? Secondly, I've also noticed that some have not nearly as much investments as me or what I thought would've been necessary for the upkeep of their gear. How important is upkeep to winning battles or would I be better off spending my blood on more gear? Like SanDiegoDogMa, I have spent too many skill points on energy. I am a high level vamp but still get defeated when attacked on a frequent basis. I might start again too. Thanks for this excellent resource.

I wouldn't worry too much about your energy. As a level 111, I have 360 energy. This was my goal at first, however I'm switching to combat. I believe that eventually the developers will institute a feature that will allow you to re-allocate your skill points for a certain about of Blood Orbs. Vampire wars has this feature. This would allow you to transition to a more effective combat vamp without starting over.

Pick your battles carefully. target people on the hit list considerably weaker than you, and then move down to your fight list. Fight only those with less clan than you.

Also, you want to have only the best gear you can get for your vamps, in all catagories. an even mix of gear will only spell your doom.

Thanks for your response. Any thoughts on the need for investments/upkeep in order to be more successful in battles?

i am in level 30 and in boss vicktor fight i can not get thr blade now i can not fight the other bosses and even when i fight vicktor there is no task completion bar what should i do?

Keep fighting Viktor. The drop rate on the blade (and all boss drops) is only 5%. Statistically you will get 1 blade every 20 times you do the mission.

You, along with 501 members of your Clan, fought against Lady Joyce with 461 Hypnotic Mind Manipulations, 40 Death Guns, 501 Body Armors, 501 Venomous Auras, 16 Blood Sands, 5 Wings of Darknesss, 5 Lightning Reflexess, 3 Death, Viktor's Silver Blades, 1 Bloodlust, 14 Vampiric Daggers, 1 Injection: Blood Fury, 61 Ammunition: Silver Nitrate Bulletss, 160 Ammunition: Silver Arrows, 30 Injection: Hybridized Werewolf Bloods, 99 Injection: Epinephrines.

Lady Joyce, and their Clan of 501, fought back with 461 Hypnotic Mind Manipulations, 40 Death Guns, 501 Body Armors, 501 Venomous Auras, 16 Blood Sands, 5 Wings of Darknesss, 5 Lightning Reflexess, 3 Death, Viktor's Silver Blades, 1 Bloodlust, 14 Vampiric Daggers, 1 Injection: Blood Fury, 61 Ammunition: Silver Nitrate Bulletss, 160 Ammunition: Silver Arrows, 30 Injection: Hybridized Werewolf Bloods, 99 Injection: Epinephrines.

You WON the fight, and stole 7874 blood. You took 15 damage, dealt 4 damage to your enemy, and gained + experience from combat.

You landed a killing blow and fulfilled a hit! You earned the 51000 blood bounty.

*TIP: You can fight with a maximum of 500 Clan members. Each one can use 1 Attack, 1 Defense Powers, 1 Movement, and 1 Discoveries item.

hmmm - I don't think there is a formula...I am inclined to believe that it is random luck - the above is me attacking myself off the hitlist and securing the bounty
